Summer Oxford Research Scholars


We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for faculty to advance their scholarly goals by involving students in their summer research. We invite you to submit your proposal by Monday, February 19. Faculty-Student pairs with research projects in any discipline (Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering) are eligible to apply! Funds are limited. Decision notification will be communicated in early-March. 

Features:

Project advances the scholarship of thefaculty member with student assistance. Proposals are evaluated in terms of potential for this advancement, overall quality for the discipline, faculty rank, diversity of represented disciplines, and available funds. "Faculty" here denotes regular faculty as well as full-time staff with teaching/research responsibilities.

Research can be independent (with regular reports to faculty member) or more actively supervised. Student hours and project duration: 2-40 hours per week, over 4-10 week duration.

Open to current Oxford 1st or 2nd year students

Faculty hours: minimum of one 1-hour meeting per week, up to 40 hr/wk in-person supervision. Weekly meetings (in person or virtually) required.

Student housing: on campus housing provided at no cost to student if required for the project; however, students are allowed to participate in Summer ORS without residing on campus.

Faculty and Student Stipend: prorated based on total hours applied on project. Faculty stipend range $1000-5000; student stipend range $750-3000. No course credit is available.

Student deliverable(s): a portion of the student stipend is withheld until the student participates in the Summer Research Symposium (or, with faculty mentor approval, submits a Final Report that accounts for activity over the course of the project, project results, and personal competencies developed).Faculty can determine required progress reports and other deliverables as appropriate.

Faculty deliverable(s): stipend is paid at conclusion of the Summer ORS project upon submission of a Final Report that accounts for impact of the project on the research agenda. Initiated by the faculty.
