Student Involvement and Leadership

The Office of Student Involvement & Leadership is committed to enhancing student-learning through campus and community engagement, leadership development, and family partnerships.

To fulfill this mission, our office uses experiential-learning, service, peer-mentorship, and campus-wide initiatives. We aim to foster self-awareness, promote critical reflection, establish a sense of place, and cultivate socially responsible leadership at Oxford and beyond.

Your involvement in student organizations or participation in campus programs has rich educational value. Studies show that students involved in activities outside of the classroom perform better academically, develop valuable skills that are transferrable beyond the college setting, and report higher levels of satisfaction with their collegiate experience. Programs overseen by the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership strive to create meaningful experiences for students through the following:

Inspiring Self-Authorship, where students explore, define, and own who they are and what they value

Developing Integrity, through which students are empowered to espouse their values through their daily actions

Fostering Civility, which promotes a greater appreciation for human differences, and

Building Community, which brings students together with common interests in creating lasting memories.

Philosophy

Believing that all students possess the capacity to lead, the department strives to cultivate leadership potential in every student through intentional engagement opportunities. Moving beyond notions of positional leadership toward an empowered personal journey, involvement in campus programs enables students to develop leadership skills and work effectively as part of a group, preparing them to become agents of social change both during and beyond their Oxford College tenure.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

An Oxford College education involves an intentional focus on preparing you to be a life-long learner and socially-responsible citizen. This integration of leadership and service is one of Oxford's strengths and an essential element of our heritage.

PIERCE LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATE

Leadership experts will help you to integrate lessons learned both in and outside the classroom and to further develop your leadership skills while preparing you to assume positions on campus and in the community.

PARENTS & FAMILY

We recognize the ongoing importance of parents and family members in your life. We're invested in your success and satisfaction with your undergraduate experience and believe open communication with your parents and family is a critical part of that success.
