Which services are best for you?
It certainly makes a lot of sense to access our on-campus providers at CCW. We are familiar with Oxford College resources and the culture of our campus, so it may be to your advantage to meet with one of our counselors. Sometimes, it may be important to consider whether this is the wisest decision. If your situation is one that requires a counselor that is less connected with the campus, for some reason, or if it may take a little longer to get an appointment (which happens at certain times each semester), then you might consider these other options you have available to you.
On the other hand, consider that the Emory has extended available services through Timely Care. Through this resource, counselors are available in the evenings and weekends, and so you will likely be seen sooner. Their large network of providers includes a diverse list of providers, with profiles you can review to explore which might be the best fit for you. Also, if you anticipate that the issues you are facing and exploring in counseling are such that you'll likely want to have more ongoing counseling, the availability of our on-campus staff ends when the semester ends - but you continue to have access to these services when classes are not in session.
For those who wish, for some reason, to have a provider that is not affiliated with Emory, or who specializes in an issue that best meets your needs, the availability to access services via telehealth opens up a lot of opportunities to access the many professionals in the greater Atlanta area. ThrivingCampus is a resource made available through our partners at CAPS on the ATL campus that makes it easier to identify providers you can access. Because services through CCW or CAPS on the ATL campus (and TimelyCare) all provide short-term services, if your situation calls for more ongoing, long-term counseling and you wish to get connected with a provider for the duration of your time as a student, you may wish to consider an off-campus provider that you plan to continue with even after you have graduated from Oxford.
