Driving in the U.S. requires a valid U.S. driver’s license. Each state issues drivers licenses to residents of their state. Sufficient driver’s insurance is also required and insurance requirements vary by state. Your insurance must meet the requirements for the state in which you reside. If you own a vehicle, there are additional requirements.

Once you receive your U.S. driver's license from a state motor vehicle department, you can drive in all U.S. states. Remember that the driving laws in each state differ and it is your responsibility to know and obey the laws of the state where you are driving.
