Travel Opportunities

Global Connections

Sponsored by The Pierce Program in Religion and housed in the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Global Connections is a travel program designed to help students create meaning in their lives and connect their religious and spiritual convictions with justice issues, including peace, poverty, human rights, and the environment. The first Global Connections trip in 2006 was to Montana, where students studied issues of declining rural communities. Subsequent Global Connections seminars have taken Oxford students, faculty, and staff to Poland, Vietnam, Turkey, New York City, Civil Rights trips in the U.S South, Costa Rica, Japan, Germany, and England.

This year, we'll travel to Washington D.C. and explore the themes of restorative justice and representation through engagement with Native American Art.

Grounded in the developing relationship between Emory and the Muscogee Nation, students will explore the barriers, obstacles, successes, and ongoing work surrounding the reparation, display, and representation of Native American cultural material.

Three examples of potential projects during this program include visiting and engaging with staff and exhibitions at the Museum of the American Indian, the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab, and the National Portrait Gallery.

The trip leaders will be Dr. Tasha Dobbin-Bennett, Associate Professor of Art History and Rev. Dr. Lyn Pace, College Chaplain.

Applications will be due at a set time in mid-late October. Interest sessions will be held the third or fourth week of September, and at those sessions you can learn more about the travel program. Applications will open to the Oxford student body the week of the interest sessions.

Reach out to the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life at oxorsl@emory.edu to receive a link to the application or with questions.

Journeys of Reconciliation

Journeys of Reconciliation was started on the Oxford College campus through the Office of the Chaplain.

Its success and relevancy grew so much that it is now a university wide program. Oxford students apply for this program through the Oxford Office of Religious & Spiritual Life.  Team membership consists of people from both campuses.

Journeys of Reconciliation is an inter-religious program that gives members of the Emory community the opportunity to cultivate relationships of partnership, service and friendship with communities around the world. By visiting these communities and supporting their work of reconciliation, we open ourselves to possibilities of hope and healing.
