What is Zoom-bombing?
In the last few days some of you may have heard of “Zoom Trolls or Zoom Party Crashers or Zoom-bombing”. Zoom-bombing is when uninvited guests use Zoom’s screensharing feature to blast other viewers with inappropriate and not safe for work internet content, including images, videos, advertisements, and computer viruses.
Settings for Preventing Zoom-Bombing to protect meetings:
When meeting link is shared on social media or other public forums, that makes the event public which means that anyone with the link can join the meeting. The following settings will decrease Zoom Bombing. Please contact OCIT if you need help.
- Avoid starting public events using Personal Meeting ID (PMI), instead generate random meeting IDs.
- Disable “Join Before Host” so people can’t cause trouble before you arrive.
- Enabling “Co-Host” so you can assign others to help moderate.
- Disable “File Transfer” so there’s no digital virus sharing.
- Disable “Allow Removed Participants to Rejoin” so booted attendees can’t slip back in.
- Prevent participants from screen sharing
- Mute participants
- Disable private chat
- Zoom also suggests using the Waiting Room feature, which allows hosts to control who enters the meeting and stops guests from joining until the host is ready for them.
Most people will be able to maintain calls by routinely checking voicemail and missed call notifications. Here are more options to make your phone interactions seamless for remote work.
Call Forwarding: Allows the forwarding of desk phone number to another number:
- Dial 404-727-7100, enter your mailbox extension and password when prompted.

- To deactivate forwarded calls, get Dial Tone on the line that was forwarded
Press #22
Note: If your calls are not answered at the forwarded-to station or if the forwarded-to station is busy, your calls will be re-directed to your Coverage Path, e.g. to Voice Mail or to Assistant then Voice Mail.
Extension to Cellular (EC500): The Extension to Cellular feature, allows calls to ring on your desk phone and cell phone simultaneously. To activate EC500, please contact OCIT with your desk number and mobile device or land line for routing.
