Goals
- Create and maintain an environment that is conducive to the intellectual, cognitive, moral, and psychosocial growth of all community members.
- Promote the use of moral and ethical decision-making in students’ daily lives.
- Promote accountability and responsibility for undergraduate students.
- Provide opportunities for community members to acquire knowledge and skills that will improve their chances of future success.
- Promote low risk choices specifically relating to alcohol and drug use, but also broadly to all types of risk.
- Resolve alleged violations of expectations in a way that is fair, developmental, and expedient.
- Encourage a high level of participation in the creation, promotion, and enforcement of standards by all members of the community.
- Educate all community members about responsible citizenship.
- Maintain accurate records and produce information to assist other University offices in their functions.
- Eliminate student misconduct.
The Dean of Oxford College will establish councils and boards, as deemed advisable for the effective implementation of the conduct process. The pool of faculty, staff, and student members will be from Oxford College.
The following standing boards and councils are established:
Oxford Conduct Board
The Conduct Board is established as the general hearing body for all allegations of severe conduct violations as determined by the Chief Conduct Officer. Such violations include, but are not limited to, repeat alcohol violations, drug violations, and significant property damage.
The Conduct Board is comprised of the following members: a Chair, who shall be the Chief Conduct Officer, or his/her designee; two faculty or staff members; four students; and a Student Conduct Solicitor. The Solicitor shall not vote. The Chair does not vote except in cases of a tie regarding sanctions.
Peer Review Board
The PRB is established as the hearing body for allegations of minor conduct violations as determined by the Chief Conduct Officer. Such violations include, but are not limited to, minor instances of vandalism, some residence hall policy violations, and minor alcohol violations.
The PRB is comprised of a Chair, who shall be the Chief Conduct Officer, or his/her designee and five students. The Chair does not vote.
Oxford Administrative Council
The Council is established as the general hearing body for specific conduct cases deemed appropriate by the Dean for Campus Life.
The Council is comprised of a Chair, who shall be the Chief Conduct Officer, or his/her designee and three faculty or staff members. The Chair does not vote.
Appointments
The appointment of conduct officers as well as chairs, faculty, and staff to each of the hearing bodies shall be for a period of one academic year. Faculty and staff appointments shall be made by the Dean of Oxford College. Student appointments shall be made by the Chief Conduct Officer and Dean for Campus Life. Appointments may be renewed at the discretion of the Dean for Campus Life.
If a sufficient number of board or council members are not available, substitutes may be appointed by the Dean of Oxford College and/or Dean for Campus Life.
All of the Residential Education & Services (RES) staff is considered conduct officers at Oxford College. The two staff members who students will most likely work with in the conduct system are Michele Sheets and Natalie Raymond.
Phillip Sullivan is the Associate Dean for Campus Life, the Director of RES, and the Chief Conduct Officer for the College. He is responsible for the administration of the Code of Conduct and chairs the Conduct Board and Administrative Council.
Aljen Bryant is the Residence Life Coordinator for Haygood Hall and chairs the Peer Review Board.
