Does CCW Have Session Limits?

Often students come to CCW with an understanding of their goals for counseling but are unsure of how to get there and how long that process will take. Sometimes, students do not seek individual counseling because they have heard that there is a session limit, usually hearing a very low number that is not accurate.  Most students are able to have as many sessions as they need, but this requires them to be actively engaged in the process.  Generally speaking, we encourage students to consider how they would make the most of up to 12 sessions per semester.  While not, necessarily, a strict limit (as we consider any urgent needs a student may have as they approach this limit), this number does allow us to make the most of the sessions we offer while ensuring that all students are able to access our services.

Initially, a CCW counselor will help in determining a timeline and recommending the best form of treatment (group sessions, workshops, and/or individual counseling) and we encourage students to fully participate in this process.   Some students attend weekly sessions.  Others attend every other week.   Still others prefer to meet less frequently, usually after they have made some gains in their goals or hopes for counseling.  Our aim is to help you, in collaboration with your counselor, identify a way to meet our goals of serving individual students and the campus community, overall.
