Domestic Transient Study
Transient Study gives Oxford College students the opportunity to receive credit toward their Oxford College degree while enrolled as a guest at another accredited institution in the United States between their first year and sophomore year of study. Students who wish to attend a college or university other than Emory College for summer transient study must meet with an advisor from the Advising Support Center to discuss the Domestic Transient Study Application. The application will open February 13th and will close May 15th at 5:00 PM.
To gain permission for Transient Study:
- Complete Oxford College Domestic Transient Study Application
- If you are requesting a course that is not already pre-approved, a syllabus for intended course(s) of study will be required
- To view the requirements for the application and information about accessing the Domestic Transient Study application, please click "View Requirements" below
Transient permission letters will be mailed directly to the visiting college or university. Applications and materials will not be accepted after the above deadline.
International Transient Study
International students with visas who would like to take Transient Study in their home country must complete the International Transient Study Application process with the Emory College Office of International and Summer Programs (OISP). OISP also has specific information about international summer programs available on their website. The application deadline for International Transient Study is 4/15/25. If you have additional questions, you may visit the International Transient Study page or contact the Office of International and Summer Programs at studyabroad@emory.edu.
- Students may take up to 7 credit hours as summer international transient study hours, providing they have not met the maximum of 18 hours allowed as AP/IB or other college credits earned prior to matriculation.
- A maximum of 8 hours from outside of Oxford/Emory may be used toward Oxford College Associate of Arts degree requirements.
- Oxford College students may earn post-matriculation credits outside of Emory University from a single accredited institution of higher education. Students may not combine transient study as well as Emory College of Arts and Sciences summer school. Students for whom this presents a hardship should include in their narrowly tailored plan for academic work a request for a formal exception to this policy.
