Application Requirements
In order to apply for Domestic Transient Study you should read the list below to ensure that you are eligible to participate in the program. If you have any questions or concerns about these requirements please e-mail us at oxregistrar@emory.edu.
- Transient credit is only granted during the summer between the first year and sophomore years.
- Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the end of the preceding semester.
- Students must be in good standing.
- Students must meet with the Advising Support Center before completing a Domestic Transient Study application. Courses will not be reviewed until students have met with the ASC.
- No transfer work or credit will be awarded for course work done during the summer without prior approval.
- Host school must be accredited.
- Courses must be taught synchronously at the host school. No fully asynchronous classes will be approved.
- Complete the online application. A copy of the application is sent to a student's advisor for advising purposes. It is not the role of the advisor to determine equivalency courses. The Registrar's Office and Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs authorizes final approval for transient study.
- A copy of the Letter of Authorization is e-mailed to the student, student’s advisor and the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs.
- A Letter of Good Standing is sent to the host institution indicated on the approved application. Delays in the Letter of Good Standing reaching the appropriate office can occur when an incorrect or incomplete email address is entered on the application and could result in a delay in course registration. To avoid registration delays, please ensure that the address entered on the application is correct.
- At minimum, students must enroll in a three (3) semester-hour course or a four (4) quarter-hour course to receive credit. All courses must be taken for a letter grade, and students must earn at least a "C" in a course in order to receive credit and be compatible with Oxford's curriculum to be transferred.
- Course equivalents may vary. Credit hours may vary depending upon school system. Quarter hours are converted to semester hours by multiplying two thirds.
- No more than 18 total credit hours will be granted for a combination of AP, IB, transferred or transient college work. See college catalog for policies regarding test credit limitations.
- Courses offered by the Business and Nursing School must be taken at Oxford or Emory, and will not be approved for transient study.
- A student's last eight (8) semester hours must be taken at Oxford College (includes summer school on the Atlanta campus) to complete your residency requirement.
- Applications are checked for completeness. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
- It is the student’s responsibility to have their official transcript(s) mailed from each host school attended in order to receive Transient Study credit and received by Oxford College no later than October 1st. These transcripts should bear the host school's official seal/stamp and be sent from the host school to oxregistrar@emory.edu or Domestic Transient Study, Registrar's Office, Oxford College, 801 Emory Street, Hopkins Hall, Oxford, GA 30054.
- Students seeking approval for summer courses taken overseas must contact the Office of International and Summer Programs (OISP) at studyabroad@emory.edu. You can find out more study abroad information on the OISP website.
