Student Services

Academic Advising is an integral part of Oxford College's student experience. While students are assigned faculty advisors through the Discovery Seminar Program, our office, the Advising Support Center provides services throughout a student's undergraduate experience. Please see our website for more information.

The English 186 multilingual course offers intensive classroom instruction for one semester to high proficiency students whose first language is not English, followed by out-of-classroom support and one-on-one tutoring through the Writing Center. For more information please contact Gwendolynne Reid gwendolynne.reid@emory.edu

The Oxford Library staff are here to support you in your research and coursework! Check out the links on our Student Support page linked below for all the different ways we can assist you.

The Mathematics Center offers help and support for all math classes taught at Oxford College. One-on-one tutoring from both faculty and student tutors is available Mondays through Thursdays in the afternoon (see the website referred to below for specific times).

Tutoring can be done either by appointment or on a drop-in basis. Students are encouraged to use the center as a place to do their math homework, asking questions of the faculty and student tutors as needed. For further information or for additional help and resources for some courses (in the form of written and video tutorials), please refer to the Mathematics Center website.

Students seeking assistance with improving study skills can make an academic coaching appointment by contacting the Advising Support Center at oxadvising@emory.edu.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) offers students in historically challenging courses the opportunity to attend weekly review sessions led by students who not only have mastered these difficult courses but who also have demonstrated their ability to lead other students through the course material.

Indeed, when faculty choose a student as an SI leader, they are confident the student will serve as a model of leadership excellence to other students. The SI leader attends class regularly to help ensure that the material covered in SI sessions is a review of course topics. Additionally, regular communication between the SI leader and the faculty supervisor promotes earlier recognition of problems students may be having with material. These areas then may be addressed in SI sessions, class meetings by the faculty member, or both.

Although sessions are voluntary for students, attendance and course grade data show that students who attend SI sessions perform nearly half a letter grade higher than those who do not attend sessions.

The Oxford Writing Center (OWC) supports all forms of student writing – whether for classroom, professional, public, or personal purposes – through individual writing conferences, college-wide workshops, and an onsite library of writing resources. The OWC's peer consultants are trained to support writing, presentations, or multimedia assignments for any class; they are also available at any point in the process, from brainstorming to argument development to polishing. Its mission is to help students grow as flexible communicators and thinkers. The OWC is located in Pierce Hall 117, and appointments are recommended but not required. You can make an appointment using the OWC website.
