Make an Appointment
To schedule an appointment, call us at (770) 784-8394 when classes are in session, during regular working hours (Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; our office is closed from noon to 1:00 p.m. for lunch).
In non-crisis situations, the first appointment is called an Intake and involves completing a number of questionnaires and then meeting with a counselor. This particular meeting usually has a lot more focus on collecting background information about you...not just your struggle, but also your overall life experiences. This enables us to help provide services to a person, more holistically...rather than simply "treating a problem or set of symptoms."
Usually, the person you meet with for the "intake" appointment is the counselor that you will meet with for ongoing counseling sessions. However, this is not always the case. When possible, we try to meet any preferences you may have, such as a counselor's gender or "a younger counselor" or someone you may have heard from peers may be a good match for you. Simply discuss this with the counselor you meet with and, from there, you can work together to figure out what would be best for you, based on availability and preferences.
Please do not email any of the counselors directly, as this will only delay your getting an appointment. Appointments are scheduled most efficiently by our admin staff because they are available throughout the day to schedule appointments for students who call or come by the center, unlike the counseling staff who are usually in sessions with clients. Because schedules change by the hour, any time spent in an email exchange may result in that time being scheduled by another student calling or stopping by the office.
In case of emergency outside of business hours
- If you're experiencing a mental health crisis in which you feel your safety is at risk and our office is closed
or - If you've been prescribed medication by our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and you're experiencing a negative reaction to the medication
Call Emory Police at Oxford, 770-784-8377, and ask to speak with the RLC on call.
Our office is located in the same suite as Student Health Services. We're in the breezeway that extends from Moore Street to the wooded area behind Murdy and Elizer.
